The Martian is an upcoming American science-fiction film directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay written by Drew Goddard, based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir.The film is scheduled to be released on November 25, 2015 in 3D, and stars Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain, with Michael Pena, Kristen Wiig and Jeff Daniels in supporting roles. It will mark Scott's fourth sci-fi film after Alien 1979, Blade Runner 1982, and Prometheus 2012.
